 Arashiyama Bamboo Grove - Arashiyama

Arashiyama is pretty special. A bit far but unique, and nice crafts to shop for along the way. It's cooler during the day and spacious, so no need to try and get there early. Percent Arabica is a great coffee shop in the area.

Fushimi-Inari Taisha

Fushimi-Inari Taisha is gorgeous, and has a longer hike if you're into that. Gets crowded so it's definitely worth going early (9am-ish) or even late (past 5pm though the main shrine will be closed). On the same side of the city as Toji Temple.

Toji Temple

Toji Temple is pretty spectacular, but also has one of the bigger markets in Kyoto every 21st of the month! Food, crafts, antiques, clothes, etc. Relatively close to Kyoto Station.

Kinkakuji

Not to be confused with Ginkakuji. Kinkakuji is very pretty but far and overrated honestly.

Ginkakuji

Not to be confused with Kinkakuji. Ginkakuji is way prettier and has the best garden in Kyoto. It's also at the beginning of the Philosopher's Path which is a gorgeous walk along part of the Lake Biwa Canal. Along the way are many beautiful temples (Honen-in, Reikan-ji, Nanzen-ji, etc.). Honen-in has one of my favorite rock gardens. There's also an incredible antique kimono shop called Fumimaro at the end of the path. Run by a very friendly grandma.
